NOD32 heuristics detect and block Noala.B / Winsux.A - 23 October 2003 . . .

Spain and Spanish speaking countries came under heavy attack today by a Spanish language worm known
as Noala.B / Winsux.A.

The first emails carrying the worm purported to come from the Ministry of Science and Technology of Spain,
Center of Early Alert on Virus and Computer Science Security, offering the cure of a supposed virus.

While the rest of the Spanish speaking world was being infected, NOD32 users were fully protected.

NOD32 heuristics detected this new worm (as an unknown virus) and blocked it the instant it appeared..

NOD32 is the first antivirus program in the world to receive Checkmark certification for Windows 2003 - September 2003 . . .

"The Checkmark certification of NOD32 for Windows 2003 to Antivirus Levels 1, 2, and Trojan, is the hallmark of a company whose philosophy is to be a cutting-edge AV developer," commented Chris Thomas, Operations Director of West Coast Labs, in a statement announcing the results.

“West Coast Labs’ certification process represents the true test of an antivirus product’s capability to detect viruses, worms, and Trojans. Eset is pleased to provide its growing client base even further proof of the top detection qualities of NOD32 Antivirus on the Windows 2003 platform,” commented Miroslav Trnka, Eset’s Chief Technology Officer.

NOD32's Checkmark certification comes just after the product received its record 23rd Virus Bulletin VB100% Award from Virus Bulletin, the “Antivirus Industry Bible”.

NOD32 is the only product in the world which has not missed an "In the Wild" virus during Virus Bulletin testing since its first test in May 1998.

About Checkmark . . .
Checkmark certification provides a clear and unambiguous indication of attainment of a relevant standard for users of computer security solutions.

The Checkmark standard is a real-world industry-accepted test.  Users can easily tell if a product possesses Checkmark  certification by ensuring that the Checkmark logo appears on the product package, by contacting West Coast Labs, or by visiting the Checkmark web site, www.check-mark.com.

  • New Graphical User Interface - In addition to a newer, cleaner look, NOD32 v2.0 features a single 'red-cross' icon that replaces the previous three system tray icons.

  • Improved Installation Program - Written in XML, the new installation program offers three pre-defined installation scenarios including a "standard" option for novice users.

Canon, Dell, and Eset form alliance - 14 April 2003 . . .

Eset Software and Canon System Solutions Inc. today announced an alliance aimed at developing virus detection solutions for the Japanese marketplace. The first product of the alliance, announced at the RSA 2003 e-Security Conference and Expo in San Francisco, is a Japanese version of Eset's industry-leading antivirus software, NOD32 Antivirus - the world leader in virus detection according to Virus Bulletin magazine.

"Canon System Solutions is a trusted name in systems integration and service, both in Japan and throughout Asia," said Dr. Anton Zajac, President and CEO of Eset. "As our exclusive partner in Japan, Canon System Solutions will provide valuable product assistance as well as extremely broad exposure to end-users and other specific marketing opportunities."

Originally established in 1982, Canon System Solutions became a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon Sales, Inc. in January 2003, and is a leading system integration, network design, and software products provider for the modern Japanese enterprise. The company - which offers a broad array of products and services including computer sales and support, IS planning, security solutions, and system-specific software development - was responsible for localizing Eset's NOD32 Antivirus software for the Japanese market, and will lead the marketing of NOD32 in Japan.

"Eset's NOD32 Antivirus has proven its unparalleled effectiveness both in laboratory tests and through actual customer use," said Tom Takamoto, General Manager, Software Products Development, Canon Systems Solutions Inc. "We believe our Japanese customers will benefit from the reliability, detection ability, and speed of NOD32 Antivirus in their most important and demanding network deployments."

A beta version of the new Japanese-localized NOD32 Antivirus software is being demonstrated by Eset at RSA Conference 2003, and may be downloaded from Canon Systems Solutions' Japanese website, http://canon-sol.jp

English-speaking customers may download the new beta free of charge for evaluation purposes from the Eset website, http://www.eset.com

Dell joins the alliance - Eset and Canon develop Japanese NOD32 for Dell PowerVault NAS Systems . . .
Another result of the Eset/Canon System Solutions partnership is the Japanese implementation of NOD32 Antivirus for Dell Computer Corporation's PowerVault(TM) NAS 725N and 775N systems. PowerVault, a key systems storage product line for Dell, is already gaining significant acceptance in the Japanese market.

The NOD32 Antivirus System, chosen by Dell to provide antivirus protection for its 725N and 775N Network Attached Storage (NAS) products, features a virus scanning throughput rate of five million kilobytes/second along with industry-leading detection rate performance. Through the alliance of Canon System Solutions and Eset, Japanese customers now benefit from a localized version of NOD32 Antivirus. The version also provides Dell with a stronger competitive position as it expands its sales and distribution of PowerVault products throughout Japan.

Unprecedented Virus Detection . . .

Since Eset began entering its NOD32 Antivirus software in the VB100% Awards conducted by Virus Bulletin, the "Antivirus Industry Bible", in May 1998, the program has earned an unprecedented 21 100% VB Awards. Analysts have confirmed the company's claim to having the only product in the world which has never missed an In the Wild (ItW) virus during Virus Bulletin testing.

The NOD32 Antivirus System's effectiveness is due to its unique core technology, which addresses both known and unknown viruses. NOD32 Antivirus, by way of its advanced heuristic technology, provides state-of-the-art protection against both ItW and unidentified viruses. Heuristics enables NOD32 Antivirus to detect virus-like activity, thereby automatically initiating action to isolate infected files.

NOD32's remarkable detection rate enables it to do its job without impacting system performance -- a major concern for many users. NOD32's throughput rate - more than twice the speed of the next best product on the market - also provides the fastest possible detection with minimal impact on system performance.

Eset Software's NOD32 Antivirus System Version 2.0 is available for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, MS-DOS, Unix, Novell, Lotus Domino Server, and Exchange Server. The Japanese version will be available for Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP first and will support the other platforms by degrees. In addition to its new Japanese version, NOD32 Antivirus is distributed in nine other world languages (Czech, English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Slovak, and Spanish). Updates and upgrades are made available in all languages at the same time worldwide.
